The Barcelona Debates on the Human Microbiome is an international scientific congress that brings together leading experts to discuss the latest advances, challenges, and future directions in human microbiome research.

The 2026 edition will be held on June 25–26, 2026, at CosmoCaixa Barcelona, Spain.

What is the official language of the congress?
The official language of the congress is English. All scientific sessions and materials will be delivered in English, and no simultaneous translation will be provided.

Yes. All registered participants will receive a certificate of attendance after the congress.
Abstracts & Posters
Can I submit an abstract or poster?
Abstract and poster submissions are currently closed. Guidelines and the submission portal will be available soon on the official congress website. Updates will be communicated to registered participants and posted online.
What is the deadline to submit my abstract?
The submission deadline is March 25, 23:59 CET. Please ensure your abstract is submitted before this time.
When will I be notified if my abstract is accepted?
Authors of selected abstracts will be notified on April 20. Notifications will be sent to the person indicated as Contact Person for Correspondence on the submission form.
How many abstracts will be selected for oral presentation?
The expert panel will select up to six abstracts for oral presentations at the conference. Presenters of selected abstracts will have the opportunity to register for the conference free of charge.
Is there a prize for the best abstract?
Yes, among the abstracts selected for oral presentation, one will receive the Best Abstract Award, recognizing exceptional scientific merit and potential impact.
How do I submit my abstract?
Abstracts should be submitted via the online submission form on the conference website.
Will all accepted abstracts be published?
Accepted abstracts will be included in the Book of Abstracts of the conference.
Do I need to register before submitting an abstract?
No, registration is not required in order to submit an abstract. You can submit your abstract independently of the registration process.

What is the Early Bird period?
The Early Bird registration is open until April 30. Take advantage of reduced fees during this period.
How can students register for free during Early Bird?
Students must upload proof of student status during registration to qualify for free Early Bird registration.
Can I register after the Early Bird period?
Yes, registration remains open after April 30, but fees will apply at €100 for regular participants and €50 for students.
How do I register for the conference?
Registration is done through the online registration form on the conference website.
Are presenters of selected abstracts required to pay registration fees?
No, presenters of abstracts selected for oral presentation and poster presentation will have the opportunity to register for the conference free of charge, regardless of the registration period.
If my abstract is accepted, will I still be able to benefit from the Early Bird fee?
Yes. Once authors are notified of acceptance, they will be given a limited period of time to register and benefit from the Early Bird rate.
No. Only the presenting author of a selected abstract will be eligible for free conference registration. Co-authors must register under the standard fees.
